After serving 13 years as the national sales manager for three of the top louvered roof brands, Sundance Louvered Roofs founder Hal Torman gained extensive knowledge and valuable insights into the louvered roof industry. His comprehensive knowledge of other brands across the country taught him that other products in the market were designed only for functionality and were lacking in strength, style, and longevity.
Necessity is the mother of invention, and Hal’s observations regarding the product showed him that something needed to change. These insights sparked discussions with over 100 louvered roof dealers and hundreds of customers where Hal continued to learn the ins and outs of the louvered roof industry and the product itself.
Having had almost 40 years of experience and research into patio cover design, Hal came up with several necessary improvements that could be made to the louvered roof in order for it to become a more durable, elegant, and robust product for customers and dealers.
Some of these improvements included stronger louvers with a tectonic arch design in order to resist strong winds or heavy snows. These stronger louvers would also allow the louvers to be installed in much longer lengths to create a more aesthetically appealing look. Other improvements included a beautiful tongue and groove bottom look, a low- friction longer lasting ball bearing mechanism, a bumper seal gasket between louvers, and crown molding shaped gutters.
After more than two years of design and system testing, a patent was applied for under the title of “Improved Louvered Panel Assembly”. The patent was finally awarded to Sundance Louvered Roofs in October 2021 and is considered to be the most comprehensive patent ever allowed for a louvered roof system.
